Man does not live on bread alone. In fact, in Florence, for almost a century, the sugar of Fallani candies has sweetened everyone's days.

A story born in 1926 and begun in the back room of lily pharmacies with barley candies and which continues today with the fourth generation in a family business that keeps the Tuscan tradition of quality high, unsuspectingly holding up in the market of the year of the pandemic .

"When the world changed - says Irene Fallani, owner of the historic company together with her husband Matteo Gigli - we immediately wondered how we would do it and what would happen to us, until we realized that we were spared from the lockdown and that we even registered the 3% more than in the first quarter of 2019 ».

There was a decline but the craftsmanship did justice to the history of the company. «The fact that we are a niche product saved us and the Tuscan brand was awarded. We have remained the only ones, at least in Tuscany with the production flexibility that allows us not only to satisfy the requests of customers, who have always offered us their trust, also asking us to produce their special recipes, but also the possibility of working by hand, something that the big producers cannot do if the orders are lower than the costs "

The small company of the Fallani family, Caramelle Fallani, began the production of barley candies, produced almost exclusively on the back of Florentine pharmacies over the various decades, the success of which led them to enlarge the small factory, located in a shed, buying other machines and hiring new staff.

Engaged in the production and distribution of candies as my grandmother made them on the marble of her kitchen, melting honey and more and creating rectangular candies. Mindful of the ancient uses, the Fallani family began to produce hard mint made with cooked sugar, manipulated so as to be pliable in their hands, thus creating imaginative compositions such as sticks or twists, which they then sold at fairs and owner's parties on small stalls.
